Future is looking bright for Information Security specialists
The onset
of the Covid-19 pandemic has left businesses and education institutions stumbling
to adjust to the way they operate. Many had
shifted to work from home or remote learning in order to maintain their
business operations, something they had not prepared for. Since
then, we have seen other businesses and institutions follow suit with the
successful implementation of remote operations architecture. We can see that these adjustments are reflected
in the 2021 EDUCAUSE Horizon report. As
a security engineer, the social trend that interested me the most was the “Information
Security Workforce Shortage.” According
to the Horizon Report, the demands for skilled security professionals far exceed
the supply. The demand is expected to grow 31% from 2019
to 2029 (Educause, 2021). Many higher
education institutions had begun new education programs in this area. The University of West Florida was given $6
million in grants to train veterans and first responders for careers in information
security. If you ever thought about a career change, now may be the time.
